Car Hire Accessible Services
We want our products and services to be available to everyone, so have introduced ways to make car rental with us easier if you have, or are impacted by, an impairment, disability or health condition. We want to make our services easy for everyone to use. So we’re happy to provide the communications you need in the format that works best for you. Just let us know what you need, and we will try to provide it as soon as possible. We're always looking for ways to make our websites and online services easier to use. We try to follow the guidelines of the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) and the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB).
We design our websites so it's easy for you to find the information you need. If you get stuck, you'll find help pages, site maps and contacts pages in most of our sites.
Even fully sighted people can find reading text on a screen tiring, so we have chosen an easy-to-see web colour scheme and a clear font type and size.
If you use a screen reader
Not everyone uses a traditional browser, so we've designed our sites to work with screen readers. We use text (in ALT tags) to describe images. We’ve included descriptive links so you know where the link takes you, and we don't use frames that are difficult for screen readers and special browsers to interpret.
Change your browser settings
Your web browser has lots of settings that you can change to alter the way you see, hear or use a website.
The BBC and AbilityNet have a website that provides help for using the internet with all you need to know about on changing settings for Windows, Mac and Linux browsers.
Car Hire UK is committed to providing a range of mobility devices for our customers with disabilities. Hand controls, spinner knobs and pedal extenders are available at no additional charge.
We typically require two business days notice for mobility device equipped vehicles. However, at certain major airport locations, mobility device equipped vehicles may be available with as little as 24 hour notice. Please note that our ability to provide mobility device equipped vehicles may vary based on the availability of mechanics who are qualified to install the devices.
When returning a rental vehicle, the customer should follow the airport signs for car rental return, which will direct the customer to the Car Hire UK service facility. Upon returning the car, the customer should advise the agent checking in the rental cars that he or she has mobility impairment. The agent will either direct the customer to an accessible shuttle bus vehicle or arrange to have the customer driven to the airport terminal in the rental vehicle.
Because individual airports have varying security restrictions and configurations, if the rental vehicle lot is off-site, Car Hire UK will either provide accessible shuttle bus service to the off-site rental vehicle lot or dispatch an appropriate rental vehicle to the airport terminal.
De-planing passengers with mobility impairments should proceed in accordance with the directions received at the time the reservation was made. This will generally consist of proceeding directly to: (1) an accessible shuttle bus; (2) a designated rental car service desk; or (3) an accessible telephone (either the designated phone, or a public phone) to notify Car Hire UK of their arrival.
Generally, service can best be ensured by making a confirmed reservation in advance of arrival. If an advance reservation has not been made, an individual should discuss his or her needs with a Car Hire UK representative at the airport service desk to determine if an appropriate vehicle is available. If there is no service desk within the terminal, he or she should call to determine vehicle availability.
